Why does my DFS server change servers for no apparent reason |
|
|
I have a DFS infrastructure at two sites connected via a mutli-T1 VPN. On
occasion, my clients will reference DFS shares in the remote site as the
active share instead of the local DFS share.
What causes this change in active status and how do I make sure that clients
in each site reference the local DFS? I suppose one way would be to
refernce the share as \\computer\DFS Share instead \\ADDomain\DFS Share
If anyone has a better solution, much appreciated.

The usual cause of this problem is either incorrectly configured Sites and
Subnets, or a DNS funny with regards to what records are registered under
the _tcp.<site name>._sites.dc._msdcs.<domain name>, etc.
If this share is local, you can also disable referrals to the remote share
(assuming multiple links).
