Hi,

I am confused about running adprep /forestprep. We currently have a Win2K
server and are adding a 2003 server, and want to make the 2003 server a
domain controller. So we need to run adprep. What I dont get is... We dont
have an I386 directory on the 2000 server so do we just run the version of
adprep that is on our windows 2000 server installation CD? And we run it
on the existing dc - the 2000 box? If so, how is it updating the schema
with windows 2003 info? Are we supposed to be running the version of adprep
from the server 2003 install CD? Sorry for being so dense, but I am just
wondering exactly how to run this so that it is updated properly. Thanks.

Copy the i386 folder from the 2003CD SP1 on to your 2000 server, if you dont
have the SP1 of 2003CD then you have to get a hotfix from MS (KB 324392),
install that HotFix inn the I386 folder that you av cpoied from the 2003CD.
Run the adprep thats inn the i386 folder. Then you can install a new 2003
server into the domain.

Are you currently using Exchange 2000? If so you have to make some fixes to
the AD schema prior to running ADPREP (ADPREP is in the Windows 2003 CD)
