Hi there,

I would like to know if it possible to recreate a real server's environement
using images of several machines (ghost images or other types)...

I would like to virtuallly migrate a nt machine to 2003 before doing it for
real...

Thanks for all your hints'n'tips.

Nico.

Maybe but it is not completely clear what the above means; however

That's easy: Make a full backup of the NT machine or use
RAID1 to dupe the CDrive (and any other drives).

Take the drive to another machine, or remove one from this
machine and try the upgrade. (Or restored the backup to
another machine.)

Worst case, you still have the original or backup if things
go badly.

Doing this caefully is a good plan -- to be encouraged.

And FYI: It seldom goes bad IF the upgrade reboots on
the current machine. Largest reason for failure to reboot
is an OLD BIOS.

Hi,

I'm using VMWare workstation to replicate our nt4 domain and testing the
migration as well.

need fairly high spec machine due to the amount of resources you'll it up,
currently running off a dual xeon 3.6ghz, 2gb ram & 3 175gb 10k scsi drives.

have seen a loss in performance and the speed is pretty much it was running
of it's own server whilst i have the other virtual machines running.

i tried doing it microsoft's virtual pc but nt 4 server would not install
and blue screened on me all the time.

i think vmware is about $99, hope that helps.
