VPN and Terminal Services |

I was hoping somebody can help me wrap my head around this.
If you wanted users to access an application that runs on your network from
home. You would setup terminal services and setup a VPN so it would be a
secure connection over whatever internet provider the home user was using?
Thanks

It depends.
If you set up a VPN with your server then all server shares become
accessible to the remote user via the Internet, as if the home PC
was directly connected to the office network. However, the user's
application runs on his home PC. This could make things quite slow.
If you set up terminal services on the server, and get the home
user to run Remote Desktop on his home PC via the Internet,
then he runs a session on your TS server. It will be as if he was
sitting in front of the TS server. This makes for a very fast
connection, because only screen, keyboad and mouse data
is transmitted via the Internet.
Note that the TS server should NOT be the same physical
machine as your file and print server.
Have a look at other posts in this newsgroup that deal with
VPN, Terminal Services and Remote Desktop. |

Thanks!
Any good books that you would recommend that deal with TS?
