Adprep failure before 2003 upgrade |
|
|
I have 2 DC's and we have updated one of them from Exch 2000 to Exchange
2003 and that was successful. Then I tried to run adprep /forestprep from
the Windows 2003 Server CD and got the following error.
Adprep was unable to update forest-wide information.
Then [Status/Consequences]
Adprep requires access to existing forest-wide information from the schema
master in order to complete this operation.
I was logged in as Administrator for both updates. Can anyone help?
p.s. This server now takes about 5 minutes to shut down and took less than a
minute before.

Hi,
From your symptom, it seems adprep /forestprep Command Causes Mangled
Attributes. Please refer to following article:
314649 Windows Server 2003 adprep /forestprep Command Causes Mangled
Attributes
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314649
In addition, it seems to be exchange related issue, so I think the
Newsgroup : Microsoft.public.exchange.setup should be a approprate place to
post such issue.
Thanks for understanding.
Best regards,
Vincent Xu

Vincent,
Why would it have to do with Exchange? That upgrade went smoothly. Thanks.

Hi David,
I do understand the Exchange upgrade went smoothly. However, if you read
the article in my reply, you will find the issue do relate to the exchange
and I think the exchange newsgroup is a more appropriate forum for your
question where you will get the most qualified pool of respondents and
other guys in the newsgroups who can either share their knowledge or learn
from your issue. Thank you for your understanding.

I am also receiving this message when running the forest prep. I do not have
an Exchange server in my forest so I'm baffled as to why I am getting the

"isSingleValued" attribute value for objects defined in Windows 2000 schema
and extended schema do not match.
A previous schema extension has defined the attribute value as "TRUE" for
object "CN=uid,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=win2k,DC=domain,DC=local"
differently than the schema extension needed for Windows 2003 server .
[Status/Consequence]
Adprep cannot extend your existing schema
[User Action]
Contact the vendor of the application that previously extended the schema to
resolve the inconsistency. Then run adprep again.

Hi Bob,
Since our newsgroup is an issue based service, meaning we usually respond
to one question/issue per post. This will lessen the confusion for both of
us, as well as ensure that our results are accurate and not a result of a
test for a different question. Regarding your question, please open a new
post so that the dedicated MS engineer can help you on it in a more
efficient manner.
Thank you for understanding.
Best regards,

other guys in the newsgroups who can either share their knowledge or
learn
from your issue. Thank you for your understanding.
