Hi there,

Can anyone help me get an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG wireless adaptor
working under windows 2003?? I have an IBM T42 that originally came
with windowsXP but I'm a developer who needs to work with windows
2003. So, I've done a fresh installation of windows 2003 and
everything is working fine except for the wireless card. I've loaded
various drivers from IBM and Intel using Device manager, but the
drivers simply doesn't drive the card. If I try to alter any of the
cards settings using device manager, it displays an error message
"invalid device instance Id passed to this function". The adaptor
definitely works because I tried it when winXP was installed.

Both Intel and IBM have said the card isn't supported and Intel has
told me that they have no plans to develop win2003 drivers. Perhaps
this is an ignorant comment, but how different are the driver models
between XP and 2003? I though they were similar and a work-around or
hack for a problem like this is possible?

I've spend days searching Google and trying different drivers. I found
another posting to this problem but no one responded

I'm at my wits end, can anyone out there help?

Matt.

Many times the XP drivers for various devices will work on 2003. But, if
they don't, and the manufacturer won't provide drivers, and a Google search
doesn't turn up any third party sources, you are probably out of luck. Only
thing I can think of is enabling Wireless Configuration in the Services
applet - this is disabled by default.
