Version Control Question |
|
|
I am a site admin and have a site configured for version control. Much to my
dismay, Sharepoint allows a user to bring up a document in edit mode simply
by clicking the document sub-menu and selecting Edit in Microsoft Word (or
Excel, PP, etc.). There is no requirement that they check the document out
first.
a. Is it designed this way on purpose to allow for multiple edit sessions
concurrently on the same document? If so, how well does SharePoint do in
merging the changes? If the same area of the document gets edited by more
than one user, which one "wins"?
b. Is there a way to force a check out before SharePoint will bring a
document up in edit mode?
