Hello all,
Several of my users are using RWW with no problems. A person who has
never used it before is now trying to use it and is having problems.
She can log in, but it keeps giving an error message about 'there is a
problem with the file msrdp.cab' and then it just does nothing. I've
researched this one as much as I can and am hoping that someone here
can help. Thanks.

I haven't seen this problem but something I'd be looking at is the gzip IIS
compression.

FIX: IIS 6.0 compression corruption causes access violations

Hi,

Thanks for posting here! Also thanks for SuperGumby's input.

For your description, I understand that the issue is: you have a user who
got error when using RWW. If I am off base, please don't hesitate to let me
know.

Suggestion 1:
Firstly, please ensure you have added the SBS Site (http://FQDN/*) in
trusted site in IE. You can refer to the following steps:

a. Start Internet Explorer.
b. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
c. On the Security tab, click Local intranet zone, and then click Sites.
d. Click Advanced.
e. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type the ConnectComputer
server's IP address or the ConnectComputer server's FQDN, and then click
Add.

*Note: You must type the ConnectComputer server's IP address or the
ConnectComputer server's FQDN in the http://IP address or http://FQDN
format.
f. Click OK, click OK, and then click OK.

Suggestion 2:
When you select or click Connect to connect to the machine, the browser is
going to attempt to download a Microsoft Remote Desktop ActiveX control
from the server to the client. That''s going to be if the client does not
already have it installed. The actual file that is downloading is located
under the %systemroot%\Inetpub\Remote directory, and it''s called
Msrdp.cab. After it''s installed, it will be installed to the client under
whatever their Windows directory is, %windir%\Downloaded Program
Files\Microsoft RDP Client Control.

Regarding to your error message, you can re-download the Msrdp.cab to
client PC or copy the file from server to the client PC manually.

If the control cannot be downloaded, you''re going to be returned to the
main menu with the following error. It will say, "This portion of the
Remote Web Workplace requires the Microsoft Remote Desktop ActiveX control.
Your browser''s security settings may be preventing you from downloading
the ActiveX controls. Adjust these settings, and try to connect again."
That''s a signal to maybe check some of the security settings in Internet
Explorer. Please try the following steps:

A. Open Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
B. Click the Security tab, select Internet and click Custom Level.
C. Select Prompt or Enable for Download signed ActiveX controls and
Download unsigned ActiveX controls.
D. Click OK. Restart IE and have a test.

**Please note that you need to be a local admin to install Active X
controls. I recommend logging in as an admin, installing the ActiveX
control, then logging in as the regular user to use the RWW or anything
else.

Hope above information helps! I am currently standing by for you about the
test result. I am always happy to be of further assistance.

Have a nice day!

Hi Micke,

Thanks for your update by mail.

For your scenario, I suggest that you get a copy of the msrdp.cab file and
change the copy file's suffix and then send the file using mail to the
client computer. Place it in the appropriate folder of the workstation and
revert the file suffix. Try to test, does the issue be fixed?

Hi Micke,

Thanks for your update by mail.

Please try to below steps to try to register the msrdp.ocx file in the
ActiveX control manually:

1. Copy msrdp.cab file to a shared folder in the server
2. Run the following commands in the workstation using command prompt:

Copy \\Server\Share "c:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files"
regsvr32 "c:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files\msrdp.ocx"

Note: Please replace "\\Server\Share" by the network share name that stores
the msrdp.ocx file.

Could you register it successfully?

And also please check if there are some registry keys had been created.
Those are:

HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\IME Mapping
Table\JPN","msime95.ime",,"null"
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\IME Mapping
Table\JPN","msime97.ime",,"null"

Table\KOR","imekr98u.ime",,"null"

After do that, try to access RWW, does the issue be fixed?

If not, please help me capture the screen shot of the error message to
further analyze the issue.

I am looking forward to your reply!

Have a nice day!

I looked at this post and didn't see that it had actually been resolved. I was having this same problem on a WIN98 workstation. I had tried everything a number of posts suggested with no success. Jenny wu's suggestion of using REGSVR32 worked with a modification.

When working from the command line, the file copy worked (but not from Windows). The REGSVR32 command would not work.....it kept returning an error.

I picked a folder on the workstation, in Windows and exploded the cab into it: C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP (no particular reason I choose this folder...it may be not be a good choice, however, I was not having any luck running Windows commands against "C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files" and I was unsure how to explode cab from command line.)

Anyway, I ran the REGSVR32 command against the folder where I exploded the cab. The command was successful and it FIXED the PROBLEM!!!
regsvr32 "C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP\msrdp.ocx" (Windows could not find regsvr32, probably needs a Path var update, but I just navigated to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and executed from there.)

Thanks Jenny!
