"Client Add Pack" floppy disk question |
|
|
Dear,
I have a big question just occurred. Recently I purchased a HP Proliant
DL380G4 but the standard configure without Floppy disk but I am not aware
this problem. After the SBS2k has been setup and I add the license then
discover this problem.
"Client Add Pack" is not work if I run this from another computer's FDD.
I found an USB Floppy to run the "A:\SETUP.EXE" to add the license but it
shown the following error message:
setup.exe Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xC0000005). Click on OK to
terminate the application.
Is that the only way use internal FD controller drive a floppy disk to
install?
Those disk is the second time install and keep the "installation order".
Thanks!!

To install the CALs, you might try creating a share for a floppy drive on a
workstation that is in the SBS2K domain and then mapping drive A: on the SBS
to that floppy drive. Never tried it, but it may work.

the HP DL380G4 is a very special cable... hi-density 26 pin cable Floppy. Our company don't want to purchase this floppy because it's never use again (except install license).
Thanks anyway!!

Re: "Client Add Pack" floppy disk question |

David,
Couple of options..
1) Add a standard floppy drive to the server.
2) Upgrade to SBS 2003, at which point you won't need to use floppies to add
CALs anymore.. Course, there would be the cost of upgrading the server and
CALs to SBS 2003, but you'd gain alot more functionality. You would need the
sku for the Version Upgrade (VUP) and the Version Upgrade CALs. Be sure to
verify that your hardware would support SBS 2003 first.

Re: "Client Add Pack" floppy disk question |

Hi Dave,
I've seen this same problem reported in the NGs at least half a dozen times
in the past couple of years. What's the problem with the SBS 2000 CAL setup
floppy disk and USB floppy drives? Is it the DMF (Distribution Media
Format) on the CAL floppy that causes the problem?
With many of the rack mounted servers (like David's), it's not possible to
install a regular floppy drive. And upgrading to SBS 2003 just to fix a CAL
installation problem doesn't seem acceptable. The SBS 2000 requirements say
you just need "One 3.5-inch high-density disk drive". An external USB
floppy drive seems to meet this requirement.
Small Business Server 2000 Getting Started Guide
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sbs/2000/plan/guide/sbspni5e.mspx
I might be tempted to turn off the license logging on the SBS 2000, keep all
CAL disks/paperwork in a safe place and get on with life. David seems to
have met every requirement that Microsoft has published for a "legal"
install of SBS 2000, except he can't install their CAL disk. Seems like the
Microsoft should have some way of granting a special dispensation here.

Couple of options..
1) Add a standard floppy drive to the server.
2) Upgrade to SBS 2003, at which point you won't need to use floppies to
add CALs anymore.. Course, there would be the cost of upgrading the server
and CALs to SBS 2003, but you'd gain alot more functionality. You would
need the sku for the Version Upgrade (VUP) and the Version Upgrade CALs.
Be sure to verify that your hardware would support SBS 2003 first.

Dear,
I have a big question just occurred. Recently I purchased a HP
Proliant
DL380G4 but the standard configure without Floppy disk but I am
not
aware
this problem. After the SBS2k has been setup and I add the
license
then
discover this problem.
"Client Add Pack" is not work if I run this from another
computer's
FDD.
I found an USB Floppy to run the "A:\SETUP.EXE" to add the
license
but
it
shown the following error message:
setup.exe Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xC0000005).
Click
on
OK
to
terminate the application.
Is that the only way use internal FD controller drive a floppy
disk
to
install?
Those disk is the second time install and keep the "installation
order".
Thanks!!

[quote]Hi Dave,
I've seen this same problem reported in the NGs at least half a dozen
times
in the past couple of years. What's the problem with the SBS 2000 CAL
setup
floppy disk and USB floppy drives? Is it the DMF (Distribution Media
Format) on the CAL floppy that causes the problem?
With many of the rack mounted servers (like David's), it's not possible to
install a regular floppy drive. And upgrading to SBS 2003 just to fix a
CAL
installation problem doesn't seem acceptable. The SBS 2000 requirements
say
you just need "One 3.5-inch high-density disk drive". An external USB
floppy drive seems to meet this requirement.

I might be tempted to turn off the license logging on the SBS 2000, keep
all
CAL disks/paperwork in a safe place and get on with life. David seems to
have met every requirement that Microsoft has published for a "legal"
install of SBS 2000, except he can't install their CAL disk. Seems like
the
Microsoft should have some way of granting a special dispensation here.
