Missing partition |
|
|
Hi,
I get this message in my event log... Has anyone seen it before? What to do
about it?
"The partition DC=DomainDnsZones,DC=ad,DC=domain should be hosted at site
CN=Stockholm,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=ad,DC=domain, but has not been
instantiated yet. However, the KCC could not find any hosts from which to
replicate this partition"
Has the DNS partition disapered or gone corupted?
I have problems with policies and some other problems that could be
DNS-related.

Yes, this definitely sounds like a DNS issue. DNS is AD's basis. If DNS
flies south, so does AD.
We'll need more specific info. If you can post an ipconfig /all from a
sample DC in two of your locations, and if you have any firewalls, that
would be a great start to diagnose this.

i am having the exact same trouble in the eventlogs of two of my DC's
i have 4 DC's, W2003 SP1 in two locations. connection between them is via
dedicated 100MB FD fibre link, subnets of the two locations routed via
hardware router, no firewall involved in that dedicated connection (only the
connectivity towards internet/public IP's routes via a firewall)
One DC is on the remote lcoation, subnet 192.168.20.0/24, giving this error
message in the eventlog.
This server also runs a DNS server - the zone for the domain (same for both
locations) runs active directory integrated.

What would be cool to know is the exact Event ID #.
As for your ipconfigs, they look pretty good. The only thing I see is, such
on the qmaext machine, since it is a WINS server, (since you have it listed
as the first WINS entry), a WINS server must ONLY point to itself. You can
even set it to point to itself twice, but never to another WINS server. The
reason is it owns the records, and therefore it needs to be a client of
itself to properly register that. If qmafsm is a WINS server, same applies.
Check your WINS servers ipconfigs.
But that doesn't have anything to do with the missing partition. Are the
zones set to the same replication scope on each DC/DNS server? Have you
checked ADSI Edit to insure the partition exists? Here's a reference on how
to do that:
kbAlertz (867464) - Explains how to use ADSI Edit to resolve a problem where
the DNS service logs event ID 4515 in the DNS Server log.:

Thanks for the hint on the WINS, have changed the QMAEXT accordingly (QMAFSM
is not a WINS server)
The zones are set to the same replication scope on all DNS/DC (AD
integrated, replicating to all DC in the AD domain)
