non-domain local network migration |
|
|
We have a small business network of about 30 workstations, all running XP
with no domain, typical user/sharing configuration. Will be implementing a
new domain controller as well as Server 2003. Was just wondering what some of
the initial steps or considerations would be for such a project.
Thank you |

Hello,
Thanks for your post.
From your message, I understand that your concern is to set up a win2k3
domain. Is it correct?
Please follow the steps below to achieve your goal.
Setting up a win2k3 domain
====================
1. Create the first DC in the new domain.
You may have the detailed information in the part of "To create a new
domain in a new forest" in the following article.
Installing a domain controller
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/standard/p
roddocs/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/stan
dard/proddocs/en-us/ctasks008.asp
2. Configure the DNS and create an AD-integrated zone.
When you install active directory, the wizard will prompt to ask you
whether to install DNS along with Active Directory. Click to choose the
option.
Refer to the following article to obtain the basic knowledge of AD
structure.
Active Directory Logical Structure

en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/windows/2000/server/reskit/en
-us/distrib/dsbb_act_zyjb.asp
3. I strongly recommend that you install another computer with win2k3 and
promote it to be an additional DC. The additional DC in a domain can offer
fault tolerance and ensure the single DC is not overloaded.
4. The following tools are used to manage the AD. They are offered for your
reference.
Domains and Forests Tools and Settings

Hello,
I have tried the links for you and they seemed to work properly.
Please recheck them to make sure all the addresses appear in the address
box. The links may have breaks which could be influencing your inability to
find the proper website.
Test it out again and let me know if ther are still some issues. Good luck!
Best regards,
Frances He
