I really don't like windows messenger and downloaded msn messenger but they
keep cancelling one another out and it won't stay open.

I tried to remove windows messenger in the add/removal control panel but
it's not there to uninstall.

Try this...

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=remove+Windows+Messenger

If you need further assistance, please drop in to the
microsoft.public.windowsxp.messenger newsgroup. The main MVP down there is
a really nice gent.

This newsgroup is dedicated to Microsoft's Live Communication Server. LCS is
a Real-Time Collaboration product that provides both internal and external
Instant Messaging (IM) capabilities and presence awareness. LCS also
includes functionality to archive Instant Messages to a SQL server.

With the addition of LCS 2005 SP1 there are several new features added. One
of the more anticipated features is the ability for an organization with an
Enterprise Agreement, or similar volume license agreement with Microsft, to
purchase a public IM connectivity license (PIC) and, through their LCS
infrastructure and access proxy(ies), connect their internal LCS servers to
the public IM space owned by Yahoo!, AOL, and MSN.

LCS is popular with corporations and organizations who don't want to give up
the benefits of IM and presence, but require a solution to be brought
in-house so that they may meet their compliance objectives, such as
archiving and secure communications.

More information regarding Live Communication Server can be found at:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/livecomm/prodinfo/overview.mspx
or

Information on SP1 and the PIC can be found at:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/livecomm/prodinfo/sp1.mspx
and
http://www.microsoft.com/office/livecomm/prodinfo/publicim.mspx

The Microsoft support site is http://support.microsoft.com and has support
centers related to many Microsoft products.
