Hi Ken,
From your description, you want to replace Windows 2000 domain with Windows
2003 domain. Since you have a SBS 2000, so you must upgrade to SBS 2003,
not Windows 2003 Server.
Beside the article , I'd like to provide a upgrade path chart for your
reference:
aths.mspx>
Hope it helps.

Thank you Vincent.
But I just want to setup a Windows/Exchange 2003 on a new hardware, and keep
old SBS 2000 except exchange 2000.
Question:
1. could you please tell me is any problem of this approach ??
2. Any 'how to' information can found ?
Thank you

Hi Ken,
Of course this steps work. And you can join Exchange 2003 into 2000 SBS
Domain as a normal domain.
Please refer to Exchange 2003 deploy guide:
.mspx>
Hope it helps. But notice that you need to purchase individual License for
Exchange 2003.

Vincent - thank you for your quick reply.
Could you please give me a comment about the step of my migration (roughly)
as below ?
1. run the script -- 'InetOrgPersonPrevent.ldf ' and the 'adprep' command in
SBS 2000 and new W2k3 server.
2. Add the directory services to W2k3 server.
3. setup Exchange 2003
4. move mailboxes
5. ................etc

Hi Ken,
You plan is good except I'm not sure why you going to perform adprep. It is
impossible to upgrade SBS 2000 to Windows Server 2003 domain. You just need
to install Exchange 2003 into a member server (in your scenario the Windows
Server 2003). That's all. The installation is the same as you install
exchange in a normal domain, please refer to the deploy guide I provided.
Hope my clarifying is helpful.

RE: Windows SBS 2000 migration |

I perform adprep for preparing my existing sbs 2k server to allow the new
Windows 2003 server to join the existing W2k forest.
If I'm wrong, what should I do ?
Thank you

You plan is good except I'm not sure why you going to perform adprep. It is
impossible to upgrade SBS 2000 to Windows Server 2003 domain. You just need
to install Exchange 2003 into a member server (in your scenario the Windows
Server 2003). That's all. The installation is the same as you install
exchange in a normal domain, please refer to the deploy guide I provided.
Hope my clarifying is helpful.

Could you please give me a comment about the step of my migration
(roughly)
as below ?
1. run the script -- 'InetOrgPersonPrevent.ldf ' and the 'adprep' command
in
SBS 2000 and new W2k3 server.
2. Add the directory services to W2k3 server.
3. setup Exchange 2003
4. move mailboxes

X-Tomcat-NG: microsoft.public.windows.server.migration
Vincent - thank you for your quick reply.
Could you please give me a comment about the step of my migration
(roughly)
as below ?
1. run the script -- 'InetOrgPersonPrevent.ldf ' and the 'adprep'
command
in
SBS 2000 and new W2k3 server.
2. Add the directory services to W2k3 server.
3. setup Exchange 2003
4. move mailboxes
5. ................etc

Hi Ken,
Of course this steps work. And you can join Exchange 2003 into 2000
SBS
Domain as a normal domain.
Please refer to Exchange 2003 deploy guide:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/2003/library/depguide
.mspx
Hope it helps. But notice that you need to purchase individual
License
for
Exchange 2003.

Hi,
The correct method is:
1) Build a Windows 2003 domain and install Exchange 2003 in the domain.
2) Migration from SBS 2000 domain to Windows 2003 domain.
Hope it helps.
