We upgraded from nt4 to 2003 and changed the domain name. We used "company1"
for the domain name in nt40. We actually changed our company name about a
year ago so we used the "company1" as the 2003 netbios domain name and used
"company2.msft" as the new fully qualified internal domain name. I can
access things using the company1\username and password or the
company2.msft\username and password fine.

My question is when it comes to the logon screen on my windows xp
workstations. Like before the old workstations have the "company1" domain
name when you login which is fine. When i setup a new workstation the other
day it asked me to add the computer to the domain and i chose to add it to
"company2.msft" and everything was fine. After the xp install i noticed when
i went to login to the workstation it actually showed the "company1" netbios
name.

I understand that both na.mes are taking me to the same domain, but hoped it
would start showing the "company2.msft" name on the new workstations since
we did change the company name.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

If you are at Windows 2003 forest functional level you can rename your
domain netbios name as per the link below. Otherwise as far as I know you
will have to live with it the way it is. Users can also logon via unp as in
user@mydomain.com. --- Steve

So you are saying that the clients will only show the netbios name on the
login windows?

No. If you use UPN logon they enter there logon name followed by @ and your
full domain name. One you get used to it you usually like it. As soon as you
enter @ after your logon name the domain name box should disappear. ---
