All of the sudden I am getting the following error when V2I Protector trys to
send notifications that an imaging process has completed or failed. The error
is:

Unable to send notification email. The message could not be sent to the SMTP
server. The transport error code was 0x80040217. The server response was not
available.

This stated after completing some updates/patches last weekend and
rebooting. The updates were Exchange SP1, Exchange SP1 Integrations Issues
Patch, WSS SP1 and then Security Updates KB871250, KB891711 and KB890175.

Hi,

I understand that the problem is: V2I Protector is not able to send email
notification properly. If I misunderstood your concern, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

First of all, please make sure that all users are able to send emails
properly.

Based on my experience, such third party email issue may caused by SMTP
server's NTLM authentication. I'd like to provide you with the following
suggestion:

1. Open ESM.
2. Navigate to Server (Exchange)/Servers/Servername/Protocols/SMTP/Default
SMTP Virtual Server.
3. Right-click Default SMTP Virtual Server and click Properties.
4. Click Access tab.
5. Click Authentication button.
6. Uncheck "Integrated Windows Authentication.
7. OKs to confirm.
8. Right-click Default SMTP Virtual Server and click Stop.
9. Right-click Default SMTP Virtual Server and click Start.
10. Test the issue again.

[Note 1] We do not recommend you to do the above steps for security
considerations.
[Note 2] If you would, please contact the anti-virus software provider to
find out whether they're able to find a better work around.

I hope the above info helps. If you have any update, please feel free to
post back.

Have a nice day!

I did what you recommended but it did not resolve the issue. To clairfy,
whenever I go into the notification screen of V2I and change who the emails
go to or come from I get the error described. And of course no notifications
are received. Up until last weekends patching this was not the case. I
suspect Exchange SP altered something but don't have a clue what that is.

Hi,

Thank you for the update.

Since we do not have enough resouce to troubleshoot the third party
application and we're not able to know how it works, as I mentioned in the
previous reply, if there's no problem when you try to send/receive emails
on client computers via the Exchange server, I recommend you to contact the
AV product provider.

In doing so, you may solve the problem in timely manners.

Thank you for your understanding.

Have a nice day!

I'm experiencing the same problem - is there anyone that found a solution for this issue?!
