I have one particular client on my SBS 2003 network that can see all other
computers on the network, but no one can see him/her/it. Every computer on
the network can see every other computer on the network except for this one
particular machine. The machine in question has no other networking problems
other than erroring out when trying to clear the DNS cache by trying to
repair it's network connection. Any ideas?

Also, my SBS machine errors every restart with a master browser conflict
error. Could this cause a problem?

Thanks,
Brennon

can you ping the client by ip? if yes, you may have master browser issue and
then use browstat to troubleshoot it. If no, make sure not firewall block
the sharing.

Is this a XP machine with the Firewall turned on? IE Service Pack 2? You
could try to disable the computer browser service on this machine and then
restart the SBS server and see if the error continues.

Robert,

Thanks for your reply. I can't ping the client by ip. When I attempt to
ping by machine name, it does resolve the name to the correct ip, but every
ping attempt times out.

I'm not sure what you mean by "make sure not firewall block the sharing."
Can you help me out here?

Since you brought up the firewall, I thought it might be important to note
that I have Norton Client Security installed on all clients (in addition to
the Windows Firewall.) I realize these may be conflicting. So, I have tried
to disable the Windows Firewall on each machine. I do not have the option to
do so and am told that the Firewall on each machine is using the domain
settings (yes, I am logged on as a domain admin.) I'm assuming I must change
this setting from the server, but can't seem to figure out how--no matter how
hard I search.

As you have probably noticed, I am new to the Windows Server environment--I
apologize for my naivete.

This is a Windows XP SP2 / IE SP2 machine with the Windows Firewall turned
OFF. Will disabling the computer browser service on this machine cause
problems when it is connected to other networks? If not, would it be
advisable to turn off the service on other clients in our network (there are
only 6)?

It shouldn't affect anything but I wouldn't do it everywhere...yet. You want
the server to be the Master Browser but it is not necessary.

No, they are not conflicting. Norton Client Security is perfectly capable
of screwing everything up all by itself without help,...and probably is.
I've seen it take down a whole LAN in a doctor's office before.
