I recently dcpromo'd our Win2K3 server to a domain controller. It now acts
as a backup for our Win2K Small Business Server .

This win2K3 server also has Veritas backup software installed and is our
backup server primarily - and now a backup DC.

Ever since it has been a backup DC, the backup jobs have had problems. I am
wondering if it has to do with the refreshing of the active dir from teh
primary DC.

Where can I set/change the refresh of the active driectory on my backup
domain controller?

Thanks,

Brad

Brad

Question - did you update the SBS2k to use 2k3 Active Directory structure
before you DCPROMO'd the 2k3 box?

See... http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=325379
How to upgrade Windows 2000 domain controllers to Windows Server 2003

"After the changes from adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep completely
replicate, you can upgrade the Windows 2000 domain controllers to Windows
Server 2003 by running Winnt32.exe from the \I386 folder of the Windows
Server 2003 media. Also, you can add new Windows Server 2003 domain
controllers to the domain by using Dcpromo.exe."

Not that this is the real source of your problem.

I ran the adprep/forest prep on the win2k box - then dcpromo'd the win2k3
box.....

I do not recall running anything else on our Win2K Small Business Server.
Would you recommend that I do this??

Brad

You could try a DCPROMO of the 2k3 box back to member server, reboot, then
DCPROMO back again.

Give the 2k3 an hour to be fully synched, check the event logs, and if clear
then try your backup test again.

I don't use Veritas myself - there may be other issues around it that you
should check the Veritas support site for.
