I am trying to migrate a 2k domain to a 2k3 domain. I have followed all the
steps in the KB:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=788975b1-5849-4707-
9817-8c9773c25c6c&DisplayLang=en

however I am getting an error when I run the wizard. I have to type the 2k
domain in the source list and then choose the 2k3 domain from the target
list. When I do that it gives me a 'target domain not in native'

Am I supposed to have the windows 2003 server in Windows Server 2003 mode?
the 2k side is in native mode and the 2k3 side is in mixed mode "Windows
2000 Native mode"

Hello Kris,

Thanks for your post.

Please make sure that the target domain is in "Windows 2000 Native mode" or
later. You can

follow the steps below to check the domain's mode.

Check the domain's mode
==========================

1.On the DC of the target domain, click Start->Programs->Administrative
Tools->Active

Directory Users and Computers

2.Right click the domain name in the Active Directory Users and
Computers, and select the

properties.

3.In the General tab, check the domain functional level. Is it "Windows
2000 Native Mode"?

Generally speaking, ADMT will attempt to contact the source and target
domains either by the

DNS name or the NetBIOS name. The wizard will check to see if the target
domain is in

Windows 2000 Native Mode or greater, and progress will halt if that
condition is unmet.

If the mode is correct, please send a screen shot of your error message to
v-

franhe@microsoft.com for research. Please also send the property tab
containing the domain

function level to me.

The following steps help you to get the screen shot. They are given for
your reference.

Take a screen shot:
======================
a. Press the Pr Scrn key once on the keyboard when the error message
appears.
b. Click Start, go to Run, enter MSPAINT in the open dialog box, and then
Click OK.
c. Use Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot to the canvas.
d. From the File menu, go to Save and save it as a JPG file.
e. Send the JPG file to me as an attachment.

I am looking forward to your reply!

Best regards,
