The VSAM file we need to retrieve data from contains millions of
records. My task is to access and bring back to the PC just one record
from that file.

Could you please let me know if it's possible to retrieve just one
record from the VSAM file using HIS 2004 (by filtering the dataset on
the mainframe without bringing it downstream to the HIS Server/Client).
And if it is possible, point me out to documentation or samples on how
to accomplish this.

Mario,

This should happen automatically via the OLE-DB provider as long as you
provide the key information for the query.
