I'm hoping someone else has seen and found a resolution (or at least cause)
to this as I'm a little baffled.

Users of our sharepoint sites are getting a 'Page cannot be displayed,
Internal Server 500 error' I am seeing corresponing entries in the IIS log:

A page generated an internal error.
Page: /_vti_bin/owssvr.dll
Referrer: Client IP: 206.41.26.10
User Agent: Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.0)

This is happening on multiple sharepoint servers, so doesn't appear to be a
problem with the machine itself.. one server is running WSS SP1 and the
other not, both servers are up to date on Windows hotfixes...

If you are running WSS as part of SBS 2003, this KB article might well help.
