|
|
I have been trying to install the final part of SBS SP1 since the CD's came
out and keep getting the same error message 'This computer cannot be upgraded
to the OEM version of Windows Small Business Server. I have tried changing
the IsRunFromWeb registry entry from 0 to 1 but this does not seem to work fo
me. Does anyone have any other ideas. |

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
Before we start, I'd like to gather the following information:
1. Is your SBS server OEM version? Have you ever used OEM version CD to
maintain SBS server?
2. Are you using the Dell server?
3. Are there any event logs related to this issue?
4. After you change the registry value of IsRunFromWeb, did you restart the
SBS server?
5. Check the log files under \Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Microsoft
Small Business Server 2003\Logs, and see if there are any error in them.
.. Errorlog.txt
.. Eventlog.txt
.. Setup.log
.. MSI Logs
6. What is the edition of your SBS, premium or standard?
7. Please paste the KB885918.log to the newsgroup, you can find this log
file at c:\windows.
If you have any concern on this thread, I am glad to be of further
assistance. We look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Jerry Zhao (MSFT)

Hi Jerry,
Thanks for taking the time to respond, .y answers to your questions are as
follows:
1. No the server is not an OEM version, although I may of used an OEM set of
disks from the AP on an occassion when repairing the system after a crash
when initialy trying to install Win2k3server SP1.
2. No it ids not a Dell Server.
3. I have looked at the event and error logs and these all stopped recording
additional items as of the 04/19/05 ( about the time of the attempt to
upgrade the server.
4. After changing the IsRunFromWeb registry entry I tried both with a
restart and without, both times it failed and reset the registry entry back
to 0.
5.As mentioned above teh logs all stopped recording additional items on the
04/19/05
6. SBS is Premium edition from AP
7. Details from the KB885918.log of the last couple of attemps to install.

Hi,
Thanks for the update.
Your issue is very weird to me and I am now still research on it. However,
I want to collect more information for further troubleshooting:
1. If the update of SBS SP1 is from CD or web download?
2. I would like to confirm with you that you modified the correct register
value for IsRunFromWeb.
hklm\software\microsoft\smallbusinessserver\isrunfromweb
If the IsRunFromWeb is 0x0 then change it to a value of 0x1.
Then run the SBS SP1 setup.
3. Please send me the setup logs KB885918.log, MPSreport. You can download
and run the MPS Report tool from the following link and then send the
generated CAB file to my mailbox v-jerryz@microsoft.com for further
investigation so that we can find what the root cause is:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or if you need
further assistance.

Hello guys,
I got the same problem and it looks like you should install the Service Pack 1 for Windows 2003 Server and Exchange SP1 first before installing SBS 2003 Service Pack.

What was the solution? I've got the same error message on my install. I believe it was step 5 - the SBS 2003 SP1 update.
I've been thinking of repeating all the steps after hearing that the service pack can be installed over itself.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks. _________________ Jon |

Hi Jon,
Thanks for using SBS newsgroup.
========
Have you tried modified the following register value for IsRunFromWeb.
hklm\software\microsoft\smallbusinessserver\isrunfromweb
If the IsRunFromWeb is 0x0 then change it to a value of 0x1.
Then run the SBS SP1 setup.
============
If it does not work, change the value for IsRunFromWeb to 2, run the setup
again see how thing goes.
============
Check the version of the following file:
C:\program files\microsoft integration\windows small business server
2003\suiteinfo.dll
See if it is the retail version of the file, if it is, replace the file
with a OEM version one any try to install the SP1 again.
:
To check the version, right click on the file, select properties, on the
resource tab, expand string
If it is OEM version, it will have an entry that says 74995-OEM
If it is the retail version, it will say just 74995
===========
If all above efforts do not help, we may need to install the SBS components
again, to do so:
1- Insert SBS 2003 Full Package Product (non-SP1) CD1 into drive
2- Launch Setup and proceed all the way through to the Finish page
3- Install SBS 2003 SP1
Note, in step 2, you should not see the component selection page.
After that, run the SBS SP1 setup.
Hope this helps.
Have a nice day.

Hi GBWarren,
Since the resolution provided in the previous post has not helped you, it
may be a different issue. In order to concentrate fully on the new issue I
would suggest that you post it as a separate thread. That way each issue
can receive full attention and will also make the thread more clear and
consistent for others reference.
If you have concerns about starting a new thread, we can continue in this
thread. However, I may need the following information then:
1. Have you tried modified the following register value for IsRunFromWeb.
hklm\software\microsoft\smallbusinessserver\isrunfromweb
If the IsRunFromWeb is 0x0 then change it to a value of 0x1.
Then run the SBS SP1 setup.
If it does not work, change the value for IsRunFromWeb to 2, run the setup
again see how thing goes.
2. Check the version of the following file, what is it?
C:\program files\microsoft integration\windows small business server
2003\suiteinfo.dll
3. 1. Is your SBS server OEM version? Have you ever used OEM version CD to
maintain SBS server?
4. Please send me the following log files, my email address is
v-jerryz@microsoft.com:
under \Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Microsoft Small Business Server
2003\Logs
. Errorlog.txt
. Eventlog.txt
. Setup.log

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know.
