Hi,

I am investigating a scenario for our company where we use Windows Server
2003 IIS NLB (on two servers) for incoming web requests and SQL 2000 (two
node cluster at the backend).

My question is - most of the IIS traffic will be dynamic but what happens if
our developers make a change to IIS (for example, adding asp pages) on one
server, can NLB replicate the changes to the second server. If this is not
possible, are the changes to IIS required to be made on both servers?

Also, I plan to place NLB IIS in a workgroup with the sql cluster being in
our main domain. Will this configuration work OK?

hi jed!

there is no file or iis option replication implemented in nlb.... you can
"sync" both iis web-directories eg with robocopy.
nlb in a workgroup and sql cluster in the domain is supported.

Gerald,

Thanks for that reply. That gives me a clearer picture of NLB IIS. I have
read that IIS clustering is not recommended in 2003 so will infrom our
developers of the robocopy solution to synch web directories in NLB.

Thanks.

DFS with FRS will also replicate, but you need to careful to ensure that
both IIS installs are identical.
