AD Users and Computers |
|
|
Slow to start (load) I have checked and verified DNS settings and verified
the SVR record per MS Knowledge base. All appears to be fine. I see no
errors in the DNS information, yet all articles point to this as being the
culprit. The server is the DNS for the intranet, and has forwarders for
resolving DNS requests outide the local intranet. The server points to
itself for DNS requests as well. Any other suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. |

If you mean machines, are they internal machines DNS
settings pointing STRICTLY at the INTERNAL DNS
server (set)?

All internal machines receive the DNS settings via DHCP from the server. The
server is the DC and DNS for the network. All things work fine for the users
and local workstations, even internet access. For some reason the AD Users
and Computers Snap-in takes 5 min. to load on the server. Of the 100+servers
I have installed with AD/DNS or supported, this is the only one with this
particular issue. The network consists of 12 W2K/XP Pro Desktops and 2 Mac
G5's.

Usually such problems are caused due to the current
DC trying to FIND the other DCs or to check replication.
You might try running DCDiag on that DC.
Also ReplMon and RepAdmin.

I will double check the settings again. This is SINGLE server environment so
it is the ONLY DC. The logs show no DNS errors or anything else for that
matter out of the ordinary.

I was confused by the line above, but obviously (now)
you mean 100+ servers at different places or companies.

Has this always been single DC server environment?
So all roles of the single DC/GC are correctly defined?

Yes, this has always been a single DC and all roles are defined correctly. I
have ran dcdiag and all tests pass. Same with dnslint, everything resolves
correctly and all NSLOOKUP searches come back fine as well. I inherited this
small network and this appears to be the ONLY bug. I can live with it, but
would like to figure out why ADUC acts like there is a problem with the DNS.
