Windows 2000/2003 Trust |
|
|
Hi,
Having a strange problem. I've setup an external trust between two forest.
The first is a Windows 2000 Server DC with SP4 installed. The second is a
Windows Server 2003 DC. I've set the trusts up and test from both sides
which state the trust is up and active.
But I can't access any server resources on the other domain. In particular
I want to run the Active Directory Migration Tool but am unable to. Has
anyone seen this before?

basically u need to upgrade the Win2k AD to Win2k3 AD.
Syntax
adprep{/forestprep | /domainprep}
Parameters
/forestprep
Prepares a Windows 2000 forest for an upgrade to a Windows Server 2003
forest.
/domainprep
Prepares a Windows 2000 domain for an upgrade to a Windows Server 2003
domain.
Run adprep /forestprep on the schema master and
adprep /domainprep on the Infrastructure master roles.
That's all.

you shouldn't need to upgrade your Win2k AD in order to have a trust with
your new Win2k3 AD. I think that Lai was under the impression that you were
trying to setup a Forest Level trust which requires Win2k3 AD on both sides.
If all you are trying to do is have an External trust in order to run a
migration tool then you should be fine.
Have you given your Admin account that you are using to run ADMT Admin
privlidges in the other domain? You can't do anything across a trust until
you have permission in the other domain.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for your reply. I haven't added the admin account to the other
domain, because even though the trust is active and verified, when I try to
connect to the other domain, I keep getting "Server not operational" errors.
Thanks for your help.
