We consider to develop/customize advanced search in Sharepoint Portal Server
2003 (SPS) to include search on a specific set of properties. The available
properties must be dynamically collected from the index. Each user should be
able to customize/personalize this.

Is it possible to query the index for a collection of properties/metadata?

Any recommendations for books or websites regarding search and indexing on
SPS 2003?

Is the index engine the same in SPS2001 and SPS2003?

Hi JeyLey,

The searching of SPS2003 is totally different from the one in SPS 2001. For
the customization of Search result page, one MSDN article will be very
helpful for you:
How to Customize Your Search Using SharePoint Portal Server 2003
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/odc_SP2003_ta/html/Office_SharePoint
PortalServerSearchBox.asp

"Is it possible to query the index for a collection of properties/metadata?"
At the section "A Simple Keyword Search in an ASP.NET Page" of the article
above, you will see how to pass one query command into the QueryProvider
for searching the property
urn:schemas.microsoft.com:fulltextqueryinfo:description.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any question.
