I am having a problem moving Sharepoint 2003 from one server to
another. I am using the backup/restore tool that comes with SPS2003.

I am getting the following error message
("The database schema is too old to perform this operation in this
SharePoint cluster. Please upgrade the database and try again.")

I have checked the news groups and they say that everything needs to be
the same on both servers. This is the case.

Windows 2003 SP1 with all updates from windows update applied
SQL server 2000 SP3a on both
Sharepoint 2003 (no SP applied) on both (If the version of the
Mssrch.dll file is 11.0.5704.0, the original release version of
SharePoint Portal Server 2003 is installed on the server. - posting
from another user)

The only difference is that Microsoft Windows Sharepoint Services 2.0
is installed on the new server- could this effect it?

Any ideas why I can't restore...I need to get this sorted ASAP.

Thanks
Ray.

Why not put WSS & SPS sp1 on both servers and see if this doesn't straighten
you out. You have DB schema issues so hopefully fully upgrading both will
sort you out.

Is there any issues installing SPS sp1 on our live server. I don't want
to install this and for the server to fall over then.

Also i never meant to install WSS on the new server. It just installed
it. Does windows 2003 SP1 install this.

I have never seen SP1 cause a problem so you should be safe. Make a backup
before hand just to be sure. :)

Not sure on the move from enterprise to standard. I wouldn't think that
would cause the DB's to be different but I wouldn't swear to it. What about
trying to do a SQL backup and Restore to move the portal? I left you an
email to your gmail account, did you see it?

the backup xml file. Go down then on available components to the portal
site I want to restore. Then click on the edit button on the right hand
side of tool. Select IIS virtual Server(Default web site) and give the
3 databases names. On the second option in the list I select the server
name.

I then click restore.

It goes through everything and it looks like everything works fine and
then at the end it gives me my error message. The databases are
restored though.

One other thing I've noticed is that we initially had it rung on SQL
Server 2000 Enterprise but we're now moving it to Standard edition.
Would this make a difference.

Server1 SQL Server 2000 8.00.760 SP3 Enterprise Edition
Server2 SQL Server 2000 8.00.760 SP3 Standard Edition

Thanks again

Shane,

Thanks for your help. I have fully patched up the server to
SQL Server 2000 SP3a
SPS 2003 SP1
WSS SP1
Windows 2003 SP1

The only difference is that we have it running currently on Windows
2003 SP1 Enterprise Edition where as the new server is Windows 2003 SP1
Standard Edition. Would this make any difference. Also the server name
is going to changes from server1 to server2.

I am still getting the error with the restore
("The database schema is too old to perform this operation in this
SharePoint cluster. Please upgrade the database and try again.")

Any other ideas. The databases are restored SQL Server and i can see
them through enterprise manager but i can't access the site still.

Any more ideas? Can i try to restore some other way?
Thanks,
Ray

Give me a step by step review of how you are doing the restore.
