dnsapi error - event id 11156 |
|
|
Hi All,
i have no clue;;:
2 w3k servers, mixed mode 1 dc, 2nd is not a dns backup yet just ad/wins.
when w3k installed, each server had 2 nics in it, so i disabled one on each
later. currently .10 and .13 are alive, .11 and .12 are disabled.
..10 is my primary DC, it has AD/DNS/WINS/DHCP installed and running on it.,
no errors in the dns error log, checked replication with replmon,
replication is taking place successfully
any help greatly appreciated
Thanks
Peter

Event Category: None
Event ID: 11156
Date: 1/10/2005
Time: 10:35:44 AM

Description:
The system failed to register pointer (PTR) resource records (RRs) for
network adapter
with settings:
Adapter Name : {FE485CB5-02A4-496B-92B1-22DFEFD07FB6}
Host Name : saturn
Adapter-specific Domain Suffix : mycomp.mycity.local
DNS server list :
10.0.0.10
Sent update to server : 255.255.255.255
IP Address : 10.0.0.13
The reason that the system could not register these RRs was because the
update request that was sent to the specified DNS server timed out. This is
probably because the authoritative DNS server for the name being registered
is not running. |

Ensure your DNS fwd and rev lookup zones allow dynamic updates.

Yes configure a reverse lookup zone and enable dynamic updates.
"The system failed to register pointer (PTR) resource records (RRs) for
network adapter:"
It can't register a PTR without a reverse lookup zone :)
