I have set up a WSS site but I am having a few issues with users loggin over
the web. Users, once logged in, have no issues viewing Calendars, Contacts
or Document Lists. However anytime they choose to open a Word or Excel file,
they are prompted to enter in their username and password again. This
happens regardless of the permissions set for their account on SharePoint or
in AD.
I would like to set it up that my users only have to log in once. Any ideas?

Check WSS FAQ item III.25.1
http://www.asaris-matrix.com/mvp-walsh/Lists/WSS%20FAQ/DispForm.aspx?ID=99

or go direct to the KB item (KB 823553) it refers to.

Thanks! I did try that before I posted, but at that time it didn't seem to
work as I was still being prompted. However, this morning, all is well.
Thanks!

Perhaps I posted too soon. I can open most files without being prompted for
a username and password. However, I am still prompted three times when
trying to open an Excel file. If I cancel three times, I have access, but I
would like to bypass this. Working files include: PDF, DOC, RTF. The code
in htmltransinfo.xml is the same for DOC and XLS files. This one is wee bit
confusing.

Does the behavior change if the users accessing the site over the web add
the site to "Local Intranet" in Internet Explorer
