When I run the Database Configuration Application, I get an error message
saying "Could not grant logon locally rights...The specified NT user ... does
not exist..."
I have installed CMS 2002 plus SP1a on a new-build Windows 2003 Enterprise
Server, with sql Server 2000 Standard Edition and a full install of VB.Net
2003 Academic Version.
I created a new domain account 'MCMS_System' which I joined to our
Developers security group and also made a member of the Local Administrators
group on the server. I can log on to the server with this account. I can
list and view objects in the Active Directory Tree.
I have created an SCA entry web site and removed anonymous access and added
permission to the MCMS_System account to the website contents folder.
I have created a new database and added the MCMS_System account to the the
logins for this database giving it read, write, ddladmin and dbo rights.
I have spent a couple of days Googling for help, but still cannot solve this
problem.

Any offers?
Peter

Hello Peter,

did you use the AD group in the SQL server database rights settings or did
you use the account itself? We had the problem that we used the AD group
where the account is in in the SQL database security and not the account
itself. This did not work. We then enabled the account itself in the SQl
server and gave the required rights. This worked.
After we ran the DCA we then removed the account itself from the SQl server
database and put in the AD group containing the account again. This worked
well..
Seems to be a design limitation of the DCA utility from my point of view.

Thanks, Dominik,
No I used the account itself i.e. mydomain\MCMS_System and not the AD group
of which it is a member.

Spencer, Thanks
I have read this. It says "when you close down the error message, DCA will
continue and ask you if you want to add logon locally rights to this user".
In my case the DCA does not continue with this option. It just exits. So
didn't really help.

Ok, it might be worth granting the logon locally right manually on the
server using the Local Security Policy MMC Snap In, although a memeber of
local administrators has this right!
But worth a try to see if it gets you past the problem with the DCA.

Out of interest, are the user you are logged on as and the MCMS_System
account in the same domain? and what type of domain do you have nt4, w2k,
w2k3 ?)

Hi again,
I have already added the 'MCMS_System' account to the Allow Logon Locally
section of the Local Security Settings on the server, but this didn't help
either.

Yes I am logged onto the server as me and the MCMS_System and me are both in
the same (w2K) domain

Hi Peter,

you should open a support case with Microsoft.

Cheers,
Stefan.
