I have a 2 node cluster: node1 - Exchange2k3 and node 2 - file sharing. This
is an active/passive cluster. The OS is Windows 2003 Advanced server (all
patches loaded).

Here's the way I HAD this cluster setup:
Exchange2k3 resources belong to node1
File sharing resources belong to node2
Cluster name belong to node2
-Everything worked fine this way for a very long time.

My problem:
I have to move all the cluster resources to node2 for everything to work fine.
If I move Exch2K3 back to node1, internet and internal flow stops and users
on my remote sites (over WAN) can't connect to Exch2K3.
If I move all cluster resources to node1, at times everything works fine,
but eventually things (Exchange2k3 and file acces) stop working.
Users local to the cluster network have no problem whatsoever accessing the
resources; I can move Exch2K3 to node1 and file share to node2 and it works
fine for users local to cluster network. However, mail flow does get affected.

I have changed NIC and cables and checked event logs for any problems and I
see none.
I have contacted CISCO (to check my WAN router and local Switches) and we
came to the conclusion that everything worked fine.

Have any of you seen anything like this?

I would check the following items to eliminate them as potential causes:

Verify all of your dependencies within your MSCS groups
Revisit the way you have your Exchange environment configured. Ensure that
your Exchange Virtual Server(s) are set-up properly within MSCS.

I've pretty much done all that.
At this time all my clustered resources work fine as long as I have all my
clustered applications/shares on the same cluster node - which happens to be
node2.

I guess, it's time to call MS.

Thanks for your reply.

Regards,

Edward
