Event ID 4004 in DNS event Log |
|
|
I have searched for several hours to find an answer to this. Microsoft only
has the error in their KB but nothing to do for it. Is there anyone out
there who can tell me what I need to do to resolve this. the full error is
below and it is showing the error in the event log under DNS every 5 minutes
exactly.
Event ID 4004
The DNS server was unable to complete directory service enumeration of zone
... This DNS server is configured to use information obtained from Active
Directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone without it. Check
that the Active Directory is functioning properly and repeat enumeration of
the zone. The event data contains the error.
I am running win2000 server and DC. This computer is also the DNS server
for the 10 workstations. I just reconfigured the DNS per a previous post
[see: DNS and Router issues posted by me on 1/18/2005 at 2:38pm] and this is
the only issue I am having now. it does not seem to be affecting anything
but I know enough to know that does not mean it isn't.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

RE: Event ID 4004 in DNS event Log |

Hi
I have the same error, and cannot find any resolution.
Running win2003 Domain Controller with DNS service.
The nameserves list is empty for this zone, and if I try to add some the
dnsmgmt crashes.
I have also tried to do a dnscmd /reloadzone 10.in-addr-arpa, with the error
RCODE_SERVER_FAILURE.
I have tried to reinstall the DNS service, ipconfig /registerdns, and all I
could find about it. Can anybody give me a tip what to do.
Regards
Bjarne

Can you post your ipconfig /all for this DC?
You can expect these events at start up if you only have one DC with DNS
installed.
The part that needs to be checked is the fact you don't have an NS record
and cannot create one. The DNS server should create an NS record for itself
when the zone is created.
Also post a list of forward lookup zones in DNS.
