Guys.

I'd really appreciate a rapid response on this question:

I ran a program I designed on the server that basically interrogates the
hardware and software and returns a text file and 2 lines read thus:

*****
Install date: 01/09/2004, 20:50:08
Expiration date: 27/08/2005, 20:50:08
*****

Am I reading this correctly...? Does the RC software distro with MAPS
actually expire...?

You need to renew your subscription each year to be legal.

It seems likely. The MAPS license agreement is for 1 year (see point number
4). It appears that it is enforced in the license. Probably others have
had practical experience with this.

Sorry Nick. I did not understand exactly what he meant by RC, as I do not
see any release candidate software in MAPS. I do not think that
distributing RC software is the intention of the Action Pack. So I answered
the more general question of the MAPS license. Maybe someone can confirm
that this enforced in the license. But it makes sense to me that it would,
considering the 1 year license agreement.

Thanks,

David

I'm still new to MAPS, but you do occasionally get new product keys.

There was a Release Candidate of SBS2003 in the MAPS shipment a while back -
but that was followed with the 'real' version when it was released. I don't
think the released MAPS version has a built-in expiry - although you do need
to renew each year to keep using it legally. If you're using the RC on a
live server I suggest you plan to change ASAP. Aside from the expiry date
you may well find that some of the patches/service packs won't install on
it....

Two questions:
1) Has anyone had any experience with a MAPS product key expiring?
2) What happens on a running system when a product key expires (whether MAPS
or not)? Does Windows prompt you enter a new product key? Or does it just
not let you use that key on an install?

Thanks,

David

I've never seen a MAPS key expire (and I've been a member for the last few
years). A release candidate will expire and just stop working...but then,
they aren't meant to be used for live servers or after the 'real' release
has come out.
