We Recently Upgrade our WinNT 4 Domain to WIN2003 AD “ Mixed Mode” Windows
2003 SP1 is installed with the default settings. Having a problem with The
WinNT 4 BCD The Event Logs shows.

Event ID 5719
No Windows NT Domain Controller is available for domain <domain name>.
The following error occurred: RPC server is unavailable.
you may be missing the domain controller and domain master browser entries
for your PDC in WINS.

I have seen the BCD working correctly after the upgrade it was working then
stopped.

If it’s of any importance we did have one problem
Error Message "Target Principal Name is Incorrect" When Manually Replicating
Data Between Domain Controllers.
After reviewing MS article 2888267 that problem was corrected.

I’ve look up the Event ID 5719 on Microsoft’s web Site. For some information
About changing the MaxDgramBuffering. This did not help!
Looked Up the event at www.eventid.net For more information Went through the
SIX pages of Technical information nothing helped.

Create and %SystemRoot%\System32\Drivers\Etc\LMHOSTS file on the BDC that
conains:
<IP Address of PDC> <PDC Name> #PRE #DOM:<Domain Name>
<IP Address of PDC> "<Domain Name> \0x1c" #PRE
<IP Address of PDC> "<Domain Name> \0x1b" #PRE
Same Results Event ID 5719, When I run Nbtstat –c the information look
correct.
I’ve used some other utilites during my testing, Nltest and Netdom

Nltest results

Nltest /dclist:<domain Name>
List of DCs in Domain <domain Name>
NULL <PDC>
\\<correct name of the NT4 BCD>

Nltest /query
Flags :1 partial_sync Replication Needer
Connection Status = 1311 )x51f Error_no_logon_server

Nltest /DCname:<Domain Name>
PDC for Domain is \\< results are the correct Server name of the PDC Emulator>

Netdom Results

Netdom bdc <computer name> /reset
The computer \\ <BDC’s Name> is a domain controller of <domain Name>
Searching PDC for domain <Domain Name>
Found PDC \\ < correct Server name of the PDC Emulator>
Connecting to \\<correct Server name of the PDC Emulator>
The remote computer is unavailable

Also I’m able to see the NT4 BCD in ADUC right click and goto manage and
view the BDC’s Event’s Ect…

Hi Dedrick - did you ever figure this one out? Have same issue right now, and if user changes password (in AD) the changes are not syncronised with the old NT BDC's, so access to files on BDC is denied...

Let me know please - help!
