i want to manage hierarchy inside sharepoint portal, some cutom hierarchy and
then want to manage the flow of work between that hierarchy, any suggestions
regarding hierarchy and workflow management???

you can custom security group in your sps to manage hierachy.
for workflow, you may try k2.net. http://www.k2workflow.com
