Looking for configuration documentation.. |
|
|
Hello, I've downloaded the EVAL version of MOM 2005 and I've been able to
successfully deploy it on my test environment.
My problem is that I can't find information that can show me how to
configure MOM to notify me when: a service (IIS 6, EXCH2003, etc, etc) is not
responding, C, D drives are running low on space, and things of that nature.
Yes, I have successfully imported MPs for Exchange, AD, WINS, DNS, Terminal
Server services and even CITRIX. I"d like to be able to see or get
reports/notifications when any of these services fail or generate error
messages.
Thanks in advance. |

These things you've listed you'll get alerts for out of the box, assuming
you have the Base OS MP imported.

I have installed quite a few MPs and the information I get is really not very
helpfull.
I have unplugged the network cable from a couple of servers I'm monitoring
and I see no even saying that network connectivity was lost; I have stopped
the IIS services and I get no reports of that either.
Here's some of the things I"ve loaded on this server:
Rule Groups: 264
Management pack rules: 4449
Custom rules: 7
Computer groups: 67
Scripts: 110
Rule Groups: Top Level Rule Groups Print
Citrix MetaFrame
Dell OpenManage
Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer
Microsoft Exchange Intelligent Message Filter
Microsoft Exchange Server
Microsoft Operations Manager
Microsoft SQL Server
Microsoft Windows Active Directory
Microsoft Windows DNS Server
Microsoft Windows Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Service (DHCP)
Microsoft Windows Group Policy
Microsoft Windows Internet Information Services
Microsoft Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS)
Microsoft Windows Servers Base Operating System
Microsoft Windows Terminal Server
With all these rules I image I shoujld be able to get some usefull
information, but I don't.
Any pointers as to why I'm not getting any usefull information?

To get anything from the Exchange 2003 management pack (services down, mail
flow, mapi login) you have to run the e2k3 mp config wizard. As for the
others, I am not certain. But you can do this:
Find a service you are concerned about. Stop it, document the stop event.
Create a prg, associate it with the computer group that has computers with
that service, create an event rule matching the criteria, push the changes
after you do a manged computer scan. Create the event and watch the magic.
