Two Sites SBS2K 1 Domain |
|
|
Hi, I have inherited this client, two locations both running SBS2K, both with
the same domain, with a VPN link between the two.The problem is because they
both have the same .local domain and the same internet domain name we can't
get a full integration. Users can't email users at the other site, the users
aren't in the global address book etc. If a user types in an address of a
user at the other site the mail bounces back as user unknown, (obviously).
are there any workarounds to sort this out.
TIA

You might want to start thinking in combining both servers (change one
location to Win2k/2k3 and add it to the other location SBS domain). That's
the only way you could have the same GAL, etc.
However, there might be other ways to workaround your situation. My
preferred one would be to use addresses like: user@site1.domain.com. This
would be very simple to do and easy to implement... but if they already are
using simple addresses then supposedly you need to follow this kb to share
the namespace:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321721
I said "supposedly" because I don't see how that can work... but according
to MS it should. My final alternative is to set POP3 server on the main
location and the use the POP3 connector on the 2nd site to pull from the SBS
box (and the smarthost of the 2nd site would be the SBS of the 1st one).
Confused anyone? :-)
