Hi,
created the root domain works fine with QIP DNS 9.x, WINS

upgrading NT4 SP6 with fuctional DNS, WINS in the environement not on server
went into W2K3, but during DCpromo in hangs with "The Remote Procedure Call
was cancelled" (installed patch KB824146)

this upgrade NT domain is going into a new tree of a W2K3 forest in a forest
level (Windows 2000) it has no trust with the forest it is entering, such
trust are to be created automatically during the joinning of the forest.

thanks for your input

errors Source: NTDS Replication event 1232, 1188 and 1168
the root has latest patches, upgraded server is in progress, have applied
842146 as stated initially, the upgrade machine NT is in a Virtual PC with
SP1.

thanks

add. info.

it should not be the fact that the upgrade machine is virtual since the root
has a physical and a virtual DC.

something is slipping by and it's annoying me someone has an idea??

Hi Gaz,

Thanks for your posting.

You can configure the following registry on the domain controllers of both
the root domain and the Windows 2003 server you upgraded from Windows NT:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters]
"RPC Replication Timeout (mins)" = 45
Type: DWORD

Then reboot both of the domain controllers. Then try if you can finish the
DCPROMO process on the Windows 2003 server.

Thanks Had tried this but the key disapears on reboot since it does not
finish the DCPromo.
The root was fully updated, the NT upgrade wasn't since it was auto DCPromo
during the upgrade. I cancelled the dcpromo autorun on start, fully updated
the system, downgraded the NIC to 100 FD and everything went fine.

hope this helps another in need of help.
