problems with DNS - internal works/ external doesn't. |
|

Problem im haveing.. is that the exchange server can send out email
but not recieve email.
normally in the past i could ping the www.name.net and also the
exchange.name.net. Over the weekend we had a problem that required me
to restore the server from backup. Everything seems to be working now
but i can not recieve email.
on the local network 192.168.0.0 i can ping the server by ip, ping it
by name also ping the exchange.name.net. I can get on the internet
though IE anywhere.. i can send email out though the exchange email. I
also tried the article from support.microsoft.com to test the server
by telnet into exchange.name.net 110 and go though those procedures,
of the pass and such.. all test out ok. but yet still i can't ping the
exchange.name.net from outside the local network or recieve email. I
think it's a windows/dns problem but i am not sure.
when you ping the name.net or the www.name.net etc.. it knows where
the internet/firewall ip is but can't ping the actuall server. |

mail is received on port 25, not 110.

also:
1. doublecheck your internet mx records
2. doublecheck your firewall settings, whether you're using port
redirection or 1to1 NAT.
3. when you send email from Exchange, the domain of the sender is correct?

your orig. post says "can send out email but not recieve email". how is
that a POP problem?

POP3 is for downloading mail to a client, not for sending or receiving mail
to or from any server, that is done through SMTP. Check your incoming port
25.

Run the Quick Test at http://aboutmydns.com and make sure your MX
records are correctly configured
