Workstation connectivity issue |
|
|
Hello,
I am experiencing a problem with some of my windows 98 clients in my windows
2003 network.
Half the machines are Windows XP the other half are Windows 98.
I get the following "No domain server was available to validate your
password. You may not be able to gain access to network resources"
I am able to ping the server, but for whatever reason the windows 98
machines will not logon to the server. Any ideas?
Thanks a lot,
Jordan |

W98 clients use Netbios names to find a domain controller, while XP
machines use DNS. Are all these machines on a single segment? If so, check
that Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled on the server (Advanced TCP/IP
properties, WINS tab).
If you have multiple segments joined by routers you may need to set up a
WINS server as well. Netbios broadcasts are blocked by routers.

Hey Bill,
I did take a look at it and the radio is set to Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
I am the only one who really touches the server, could this have been set
like this the whole time? and it just happend to flake out? How can this
happen out of nowhere?
Anyways, I should select Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP correct? Or select
Default above that?
Thanks,
Jordan

Just setting it to enable should do the trick. You can ignore the LMHOSTS
bit unless you are actually using LMHOSTS files.
