He's VERY concerned about unauthorized access to his palm data via
RWA, which I think is somewhat valid. Anyone at work can now logon to
his computer remotely.

But can they log on as him?

Am I correct in assuming since he's running XP pro on a SBS 2003
premium network, only his logon grants access to his data in the
palm software?

Not necessarily, but if you are using NTFS on his hard drive, you could see
what the security settings are on the file Palm uses to store his data, and
probably change it.

I tested this and found it to be true so far... I even tried to
access the data by logging on as an adniminstrator and then opened
his desktop via explorer. The software refused to open.
I can't find anything at Palm.
Whattya think?

IMO, he should be syncing his Palm to Outlook, not Palm Desktop. This is not
only more secure, less prone to data loss, but it's also easier to keep
everything in one place, and is accessible from other machines, OWA, etc. I
don't like anyone syncing a handheld to anything other than centralized data
that I can keep backed up.
He should also be pretty ___ed concerned about someone getting ahold of his
Palm handheld, if he keeps sensitive data on it. There are several Palm lock
utilities that work better than the built-in stuff, but even so, it's not
going to keep out someone who really wants to get in. |
