mailbox: how big is big? |
|
|
Is there any guidelines on when to archive a mail box?
The CEO's mailbox is 2.0gb, after deleting more than 15,000 items.
Should it be archived now or we can still leave it grow a bit?
I usually archive a employee's mailbox when it reaches 1gb, but i
think the CEO should be special on this
by the way, the total Exchange takes about 9gb now, far away from 16gb
limit
any ideas?
thx

There are pros and cons about this. If he's not experiencing performance
issues, he could keep the 2gb mailbox. Since it's his mailbox, he probably
has some good reasons for wanting it that size. IMO the negatives are:
Single point of failure for a mountain of data. Difficult or impossible to
organize. An "advanced find" must take long enough to grab a cup of coffee
while he waits for the results.
The 16gb limit in Exchange is per store (public and private), so if much of
your 9 gb is in public folders, you've probably got a way to go before you
have to worry. If he does archive, make sure you're using an Outlook 2003
Unicode PDF as the destination - it'll be more robust and hold more items.
And, if he does search frequently, check into Lookout for Outlook, a free
indexing app that you can download from http://www.lookoutsoft.com/Lookout/.
(IMO Lookout is a great app for anyone who searches in Outlook, not just
those with big mailboxes).
