Problem opening pdf-files |
|
|
Hello,
in some folders, when trying to open a pdf file by clicking on its
name, a message appears: File does not start with "%PDF-". Acrobat
closes again, without displaying the document. However, this does not
happen in Explorer View! On inspection, the document is ok and starts
with %pdf. If the file is copied into another document library or
another folder, this does not happen. pdf-documents in other libraries
or folders can be opened without any problem.
Has anybody a tip on how to correct this? We have been looking into the
View definitions, but could not find any differences to other libs
which work fine.
Grateful for any help,
David |

Do you have non-standard characters in the name of the PDF files?
There is a problem with those (search the WSS FAQ with I think "Spanish").
If my memory is right the problem is solved by a Acrobat Reader upgrade, but
look there.
(An upgrade might help in any case - probably better with an uninstall first
just in case there is something wrong with your Reader copy)

If you have Acrobat Reader on your machine, you can modify the Reader so
it will not open the document in a browser. Then you will be able to open
PDF wich have non-standard characters in the name .

Thanks Serge,
http://www.asaris-matrix.com/mvp-walsh/Lists/WSS%20FAQ/DispForm.aspx?ID=308
(III.93) is the foreign characters FAQ posting
and it also mentions that there is no problem if you open the file in
Acrobat rather than in the browser.
But between us we saved him looking for the FAQ item (which was on the
second page of "pdf" searches).

Thanks a lot. The file name is ok, but the path contains non-standard
characters (German). Acrobat Reader 7.0 works ok, so we have to upgrade
all our users. Hard to see for us, since in Sharepoint V1 everything
worked fine ...
Thanks again,
David
