Guidelines for renaming/new IP address in MOM server |
|
|
Hi
We have a MOM setup of 1 dB server and 1 MOM app server today.
In the near future, I have to rename both servers and give them new IP
addresses as well.
What is the recommended way of doing this?
What about my MOM agents? Do I have to reinstall the Agent?
Thanks.

Could be messy. However, imho I think you could do this IF you make sure
all the pointers in the registry point to the new names. This goes for the
agents as well. IF the config group name stays the same you should be ok,
just have to do a lot of reg changes. I have never done this, but my
suggestion to you is to set this up in a VM:
1 DC w/ agent
1 MOM Server
1 MOM DB Server
1 Server w/ agent.
Do the test in there, if it works, then it's possible it could work in
production. Worth a try. If it doesn't work, then you have no choice but
to reinstall.

Hi Blake
Thanks for your feedback.
As you say, this sounds kind of messy.
From what you say, I understand that the recommended way of moving a MOM
server is to reinstall it.
If I am going to reinstall the whole system, what do I have to save to keep
my current system modifications without doing everything over again?
Is it only the MPs that I have to export?
Thanks.

Basically. Just export all your management packs. Do a net new install,
import the mps. You should be golden.
Tweaking management packs is really the hardest thing with a MOM deployment
imho (other then figuring out the monster of MOM 2005 reportings/SQL
Reporting Services).
