Need help figuring out an issue with connecting my XP workst |
|
|
When I try to connect my windows XP box to my DC with the domain name of
"int.es" I receive the following error message below.
Error Message:
-------------------------------------
The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location
(SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain int.it:
The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.int.es
Common causes of this error include the following:
- The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.
- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child
zone:
int.it
it
.. (the root zone)
For information about correcting this problem, click Help.
-------------------------------------
I have determined that the issue I am having is being caused by the fact
that my DNS server, which is the same server as my DC, does not have the SRV
records setup correctly in DNS. The server is 2k3 Enterprise also. How would
I create proper SRV records for the domain int.es?
When I used my domain name of dsiworks.com I never received this error and
it created several sub folders in DNS with naming conventions like those in
the error message. (eg _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs). Those are not present in my
DNS server and unfortunately I don't have the knowledge yet to enter those
in manually.
I have domains of dsiworks.net and dsiworks.com and both are now being
hosted by a 3rd party hosting service. Previously my site was hosted locally
and I want to use int.es since I was having issues accessing my site on a
hosting service. The XP workstations would still try to access my web server
for the web site and not go to the internet.

You left off a very important part of your DC's ipconfig /all the DNS
address, it should be using its own address 192.168.1.15 only.

As true as that may be it was still not the resolution to my issue. I did
enter in my DNS server's own IP address within itself though just incase
though.
Thanks for the suggestion, do you or anyone have any other possible ideas?

Run netdiag /fix on the DC.
Are dynamic updates allowed in the int.es forward lookup zone?
Post these: updated unedited ipconfig /all, the AD domain name from ADUC,
and the list of Forward Lookup zones in DNS.
Also post the results from netdiag /test:dns /v
