Hoy to change local domain name |
|
|
Hi all...
I have a Windows Server 2003 machine configured as DNS Server.
The domain name seen from Internet is, for example, XYZ.COM. The zone
XYZ.COM is managed by an external DNS server since the IP of my server is
dynamic, assigned each time I connect to my ISP.
When I installed the server, I had to create other domain, named CORP, so
that, the FQDN was CORP.XYZ.COM, and client computers in my LAN log in CORP
domain.
Next week I will have a static IP address, so that I could manage XYZ.COM
zone by myself. Without reinstalling Windows, how can I delete CORP domain
and start to manage XYZ.COM?. That way, NIC will be configured to point to
this server and all client computers in the LAN will log in XYZ domain.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

This is Active Directory and its domain name is corp.xyz.com?
Leave it as is, this was a good choice for an AD domain name. Leave xyz.com
with your ISP's DNS, you may need a local zone named xyz.com if you host any
of those sites locally.

In general, you will want to have 2 DNS servers - one for your external
clients and the other for internal clients. The external DNS service would
not have any of your internal servers/clients defined, while the internal one
would.
But in general, I'd recomend you NOT chance the name of your internal
domain. You can do of course, but it's not pretty and it's not easy. For
more detail on domain rename see:
