I have an implementation with a SonicWall where the ISA server in W2K3SBS is
not installed, nor Routing & Remote Access. How can I restrict users from
accessing the Internet by username via Group Policy or any other means short
of IP/MAC address or per PC? THANK YOU for the help!

If you had ISA I could tell you.. if you used RRAS I could tell you how
to restrict by machine. I have no idea how Sonicwall works...if someone
around here doesn't I'd try the Sonicwall documentation?

Yep, that's the problem... no ISA. But, it should be able to be done using
Group Policy, or other Windows config options. Just can't find 'em. Even just
hiding the IE icon from the control panel, start menu and desktop would be
good, if controlling the Inetenet access itself can't be done within Windows.
Don't want to restrict by IP or PC MAC ID, need to do it by user so those
needing Internet access can log into any PC in the doman. Thanks for the post!

You didn't mention which model SonicWall, but even the older SonicWall Pro's
can require user authentication by adding user names into the device, or
better yet, it can utilize a RADUIS server for outbound authentication.
SBS2K3 I believe comes with IAS (Internet Authentication Service) which can
function as a RADIUS server.

I'm sure the newer SonicWalls are even more flexible. They have to keep up
with better technology such as the new ISA Server 2004.. I can't wait for
SP1!
