Pop Before Send SMTP |
|
|
My ISP requires me to Pop before SMTP to retrieve email.
I managed to do this on my old SBS 4.5 server, but can't seem to get the
right settings in SBS 2003.
Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks

I don't think there is a way to do this in SBS2k3 (you would need a 3rd
party tool). However, how big is your relay window?
Also, I find that most ISPs that require that can also work with just plain
SMTP authentication. Another option would be to relay through your internet
connection ISP (which normally don't even require authentication).

If they insist on this, get a new ISP <g> or better still, ditch POP and
host your own mail if you have a registered domain name on the Internet
that you use for mail. |

Found out that I have previously used SMTP authentication rather than POP
before, but whereas before the server carried out an EHLO command with the
format "server1.domain.co.uk", it now only uses "domain.co.uk" so I wonder
if this is the problem.
I can't see where I can change it in SBS2003 Premium though.

I can tell you where to change that... but I doubt that's the cause of your
problem.
Open Exchange System Manager-> Servers-> %servername%-> Protocols-> SMTP->
Default Virtual SMTP Server-> Properties-> Delivery tab-> Advanced-> Fully
Qualified Domain name (change it to server1.domain.co.uk).

No, it was that, as well as setting the IP address on the General page to
the Server's IP address
