CMS doesn't seem to be responding |
|
|
I have two virtual servers setup... both as read write:
site1.foo.com
site2.foo.com
We've been working with Site1 for quite a while and just added Site2. I
went in, set Site2 to be a read/write, added a web application virtual
directory to point to the .NET template site I'm using for Site1, and
verified all the necessary web applications & virtual directories were
present. Both sites sit on the same server.
But when I go to the root channel (channels/toplevel) for Site2
(site2.foo.com/toplevel), I get a 404. In fact I get it for any channel I
try to access. I expected to see at least the default CMS page with channels
on the left and the edit console link on the right, but nothing.
I think I've forgotten something to setup... any ideas?

Hi AC,
sounds as if the site is not MCMS enabled or as if you do have the "map
channel to host header" feature enabled.
Please double check.
If all looks fine, reconfigure the site NOT to be a MCMS managed site and
then configure it back to be a MCMS managed site. Just to ensure that all
the relevant settings are available.
Cheers,
Stefan.

Stefan-
Thanks for the reply. That's exactly as it's acting... but it's giving me
just a 404 message in the upper left corner of the browser, not what you'd
normally expect when you goto a bogus page on a non-CMS site. I'll try
un-enabling and re-enabling.
I was not planning on using host header mapping. My channel structure is
Channels/TopLevel/*
I want both (or ANY for matter) sites I configure on this server to use the
same channel structure, so basically I want CMS to serve the pages up and
completely ignore the domain from different sites.
What I'm trying to do ~is~ possible isn't it? Are host header mappings
required for this? The thing is that CMS is running inside SharePoint
Portals at the same time. So...
site1.foo.com = Site1's SPS portal
site2.foo.com = Site2's SPS portal
site1.foo.com/toplevel & site2.foo.com/toplevel both point to the same
channel, channels/toplevel. I know, sounds a little odd for content
organization, but I'm leaving out quite a bit.

I removed (via the SCA) the read/write state of the second site, reset IIS,
and then reapplied it. Everything (web applications/virtual directories) are
as they should be.

It wasn't a CMS problem at all. The reason I was getting the funny/wierd 404
page was because it was coming from SharePoint. Ends up none of the CMS web
applications & virtual directories, or the root channel (toplevel in my posts
below), were listed as excluded paths in the SharePoint portal.
An oversight on my part... like I said... long hours and lack of sleep.

I've been caught out by that one too.
We need to write a tool to idiot proof (not calling you an idiot :) ) MCMS &
SPS on the same box;
or... you need the VBS script that comes with Spark to auto exclude top
level channels from SPS (run it scheduled every minute or something :) )
