MondoSeach w/PDF Attachments on Pages |
|
|
I am having a problem with MondoSearch as follows:
When indexing the site, attachments aren't found. The
only way that MondoSearch will find the attachments, is if
I set the tool to Index the /NR/rdonlyres directories.
Doing this then causes all of my categories to be messed
up. Shouldn't the tool be able to follow the attachment
link from THE PAGE, rather than having to be explicitly
set to index the /NR/ folder?
Am I missing something? I talked to MondoSoft about this
some time ago, and they didn't seem to understand the
problem.
Thanks. |

Hi Tim,
MondoSearch is used to index resources with a large number of customers
without
problem - are you using a customized resource placeholder or something like
that?
Resources normally have URLs that start with /NR/rdonlyres even when they
are linked from postings elsewhere on the website.
If you have disallowed indexing to /NR/rdonlyres on the GrabMap you will
also not
get the resources indexed.

You can check what status MondoSearch has received while crawling your
website
by looking in the CrawlerUrl.log, normally located in
c:\mondosearch\searchhost\data
If you contact support there is a patch that allows you to see this file on
the InSite.

Re: MondoSeach w/PDF Attachments on Pages |

Here's the behavior I have observed with the tool:
1. At first, it seemed that my attachments (PDF, Word
Files, etc..) weren't indexed by the tool, I (along with
MondoSoft support) determined that the reason was because
I had set the /NR/ directory to be "No Index/No Follow".
2. After solving this problem, I noticed that everything
on my site was indexed, and returned in the search
results, but my categories weren't 'carrying over'. What
I mean by that is, if I have a posting in the
category 'Jobs', that contains a link to a item in the
resource gallery, the 'Jobs' category is not applied to my
item in the resource gallery. Instead, it comes up
as 'Other'.
3. To get my item from the resource gallery to come up
under the category of 'Jobs', I need to open Insite, go
into the catmap, and find that item under the NR directory
structure. Once I locate the item, I can then apply a
category to it.
My issue is that step 3 is extremely time consuming. Since
the resource gallery item is an attachment on a page that
has a category of 'Jobs', shouldn't the tool apply the
category of 'Jobs' to the attachment? Is there a way to
make this happen?

Mondosoft acknowledges that it can be time consuming to categorize resources
and have created a Support Issue, available to all customers with a support
agreement,
that will categorize resource files (/NR/rdonlyres) using the url of the
page that linked
to them rather than the url of the resource file itself.
So the normal case of having a posting with links to a resource file will be
a lot easier
This should increase the MCMS integration of the MondoSearch package.
Files are available by contacting Mondosoft Support.
