HIS 2004 .MSI file changes |
|
|
Hello everybody,
I´m building an unattended Windows 2003 CD, and I want to include HIS 2000
Server setup and HIS 2004 Server setup, among other programs, inside the
same CD.
Today, I'm able to include HIS 2000 without any problem. Since used space is
a important issue, I just copy \Setup\Server\HIServer.msi and
\Setup\Server\HIServer.inf to my Custom CD and everything is ok, because it
just use something around 36 MB (MSI + INF).
But now I see I can´t do the same thing with HIS 2004, because it doesn´t
come with a .MSI with all files that i need. It just have an
\MSI\Server\HIServer.MSI which is something around 2 MB in size, and it
seens this .MSI depends on files located in the PFiles (and maybe Windows)
folders. If I just copy all this folders, it will cost me ~ 100 MB, which is
not an acceptable size to include in my CD.
So, how could I solve this ?
Thank you very much,
Olavo Borges. |

Olavo - I don't know the answer, but why not just keep the installs for HIS
etc. on a network drive and run them from there automatically? (That's what I
do for automated installs)

Hi Neil Pike, thank you for your reply.
I can´t just do that easy way (network install) because the CD I am
preparing is going to be ship to over 1.500 different locations, and the
technicians will just insert the CD on the cdrom drive and the unattended
install will do everything else. I already have this solutions working
correctly using HIS 2000, but now due to new agreements with Microsoft, I
must ship HIS 2004, but it's size is near 300 MB... and I just use SNA
Service and DLC, nothing else.
I'm trying to cut some files off, and now I have a ~ 77 MB setup folder, but
it´s not fully functional. I will keep you informed if I have sucess doing
this.

Olavo,
What I'd do then is do an unattended install and then look at the log file it
creates to see what files it references. Or use filemon (www.sysinternals.com)
to see what files are copied. And delete any files not referenced.

Neil Pike,
Thank you very much, I was doing something similar to what you suggested,
your idea allowed me to improve my "fat-less" HIS 2004 installation folder,
and now it has 87,9 MB, an acceptable value.
Thank you.
Regards,
Olavo Borges.

No problem - glad you have an acceptable solution now.
